DrugDev Sponsors 3rd Annual Battle of the Biotech Bands in Boston

Popular fundraising event features bands from Momenta Pharmaceuticals, PerkinElmer and Ironwood Pharmaceuticals

What happens when you bring together musicians, scientists, philanthropists, business people and the media to listen to great music and support worthy charities? At the Royale Nightclub in Boston, it culminates in an entertaining and energetic event called the Battle of the Biotech Bands (BoBB).

DrugDev is sponsoring the third annual friendly competition, hosted by the Arts & Business Council of Boston, to be held on May 20 at 6-10pm.

The Battle of the Biotech Bands (BoBB) is a fun and inspiring networking event with fundraising efforts that support the charitable foundation affiliated with each band. Highlighting Boston’s commitment to drug development, community-driven events, and artistic culture, this year’s finalists are…

  • Momenta Pharmaceuticals’s “Aural Garage,” playing for the Jolane Solomon Research Fund at Boston College
  • PerkinElmer’s “Molecular Groove,” playing for the American Cancer Society
  • Ironwood Pharmaceuticals’s “Zac Mac Band,” playing for the Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County

The winning band of 2014, Merrimack Pharmaceuticals’s “BAD IDEA,” will open the event. Emmy Award winning arts and entertainment critic for CBS-Boston (WBZ-TV 1981-2008) Joyce Kulhawik will serve as master of ceremonies, with a distinguished panel of judges deciding this year’s champion.

“The Battle of the Biotech Bands is truly a unique event that brings together individuals from across the building and life science spectrum – a networking opportunity that doesn’t feel like you’re networking,” said Carly Bassett, Co-Chair, Battle of the Biotech Bands. “It’s about the music, charitable organizations and connecting gifted innovators in the biotech industry with the teams of people that help make their organizations possible. Already in our third year, the industry response has grown exponentially. Our hope is to continue this annual tradition for many years to come.”

Attendees run the gamut of Boston’s scientific, architecture, media, charitable, business, art and entertainment communities, and others who serve the life science community.
