The DrugDev Golden Number is a Finalist for Best Technological Development in Clinical Trials in International 2016 Scrip Award Competition

Pharmaceutical companies and CROs have access to a variety of data sources containing information about investigators and sites, but these data often are spread across multiple internal and external systems, each with its own set of identifiers. The lack of a common identifier across these systems can result in sub-optimal decisions related to study planning, feasibility, and site selection as well as pose huge business process inefficiencies in a number of areas including data integration and consolidated financial reporting.

Today, the DrugDev Golden Number is being used to facilitate data matching and mastering for company CTMS, public data, third-party providers, identity management providers, and for industry collaborations such as the Investigator Databank and TransCelerate’s Investigator Registry. It is also significantly reducing the manual effort required for pharmaceutical companies both to work better with individual CROs and to aggregate information produced across CROs and by other data sources.

DrugDev CEO Ibraheem “Ibs” Mahmood said, “Awards are tremendous validation, especially from renowned international organizations such as Scrip, yet the real reward is industry-wide adoption of a single data standard – and we are seeing that every day with the DrugDev Golden Number. Pharmaceutical companies and CROs are desperate to have a single source of the truth when it comes to site selection, and the ability to track holistic investigator relationships across clinical systems. From evidence-based decisions to internal efficiencies, the Golden Number is changing the way the industry works together as we all strive to make it easier to bring more treatments to patients worldwide. We are grateful to everyone at Scrip for nominating our technology for this prestigious award, and honored to partner with so many leading pharmaceutical companies and CROs who are ready to change the way clinical trials are run.”

In addition to enabling integration of data sources for study planning and site identification, the DrugDev Golden Number also facilitates:

1) Operational efficiencies (e.g., more accurate information, document auto-population);
2) Data mastering efforts (e.g., single source of the truth, de-duplicated/cleaner data);
3) cross-company collaboration (e.g., CRO/pharma, TransCelerate, Investigator Databank); and,
4) Integrated reporting (e.g., consolidated view of activity for investigator or clinical trial facility).

DrugDev President, Data Solutions Elisa Cascade, whose team is responsible for the concept and development of the Golden Number, commented, “Our objective with the Golden Number is to provide customers with a universal identifier to drive evidence-based site selection and master data management. With approximately one third of all global interventional clinical trials indexed to the DrugDev Golden Number, our partners are beginning to see value in reducing the number of non-performing clinical trial sites and avoiding the need for rescue sites, decreasing the IT time and costs for data mastering, and increasing investigator engagement which in turn can decrease study start-up timelines. We’re very grateful for acknowledgment of this accomplishment by the distinguished panel of Scrip judges. ”

Cascade was recently honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal with a 2016 Health Care Innovator Award, recognized for her passion for improving clinical trial efficiency and decreasing the investigator’s burden. And, earlier this year she was named to the prestigious 2016 PharmaVOICE 100 list of the most inspiring and influential people in the life sciences industries.

Scrip judges will announce the winners November 30 at a gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London UK.
